Impressive print speeds are one of the hallmarks of the Xerox Phaser 8400 solid ink printer. In addition the printers have an extremely simple installation process which is faster and easier than most laser printers on the market today. The device comes with the solid ink already installed; no need to remove them and set them up. Follow the self installation instructions after plugging in the unit and you are ready to print. The ink will take about 10 minutes to melt but each warm up following will only last about 4 minutes. This is a little longer than laser printers but the wait is definitely worth it.

Text is crisp and clear down to 5 point font and the ink gives any paper a fantastic finish, almost an embossed look and feel. Gray scale prints can be described as good and on the higher quality settings it is great with very few discrepancies if any. Color documents print at the same speed as monochromatic documents and in sharp detail. Photo prints are good, but still trail behind high end inkjets slightly. The base memory on the Xerox Phaser 8400 is 128 MB but will probably need to be upgraded for more complex documents and print requirements. Image enhancement is maintained by the FinePoint 2400 technology and will adjust for small variances in color, paper and data sent to be printed making consistent prints every time.

The Xerox Phaser 8400 has a few extra features that suit businesses far better than home offices, especially at the approximate $1000.00 cost. Optional duplexing is available to cut down on archived document space and waste. The units are compatible with Mac OS, UNIX, and Windows systems as well as some Linux and Sun systems. Media sizes supported include but are not limited to Folio, B5, Executive and Statement which allows a busy work group more room for varying document size requirements.
